I just realised home notifications stay there.
I always thought that was a bug that nobody had a good way to deal with - serves me right for having my profile permanently open for the last nine months...and also explains the confusion in the various notification threads the last few days.

I had some sticky notifications the other day and checked in a fix for it. During a Dreamhost glitch a few messages got posted without a parent being set, and replies to them weren't getting the unseen flag cleared.

They're not sticky. What I mean is the unread posts on your home page stay there if you don't have the network or home tab open. until you next open your network/profile page.
I always thought that was broken, and they only lived one ping, because I 'rest' my friendica tab on my profile page. For the first time ever, I left it on an app page instead, came back and there was more than one showing.
Months long user error is all.
