Lots of people came up to me afterward and said this was the best panel at LeWeb. I think they are exaggerating but it was fun.

Apple Patent That Could Mess With Data Profilers a Good Sign
Cult of Mac's Mike Elgan spotted the patent called "Techniques to pollute electronic profiling," which would presumably allow for systematic lying to data-harvesting servers.

... He points out the disturbing fact that the future is one in which it could be impossible to keep your personal data from being harvested.
Of course, the primary reason one patents something is to stop other people using it.

One scenario is that Apple harvests the real data for their own purposes, and “pollutes” the data collected by rivals, such as Google.

Agreed.

But, it's also important to spot the growing public awareness about the importance of privacy. That's the bigger picture & that's why I posted the article.

The big new thing shall indeed be genuine privacy. ;-)
