I've upped the bounty on Mail2 if that makes anybody interested in it.
I kinda hoped a few more people would top it up, but what can you do...
If this doesn't work, I'll try to do it myself again, and that's going to cause headaches for everyone.

A single button to turn them all on/off would be nice though. Dontcha think?
That sounds like a feature. We would need an on/off button for that.

Major UI Changes Coming Up
There are some major UI changes coming up in the Git shortly.
Friendica has more features than any other similar project, but this has lead to users complaining that the UI is complicated.
It turns out, having a simple UI and lots of features isn't possible.
To combat this, from now on users will start with only basic features enabled. This means after this code has been pulled, you'll find some features missing. This applies to all themes official and otherwise (though only partially in KakSte and Neptune).
Don't worry though, everything is still there. You'll find a checkbox on your settings page to turn one, some, or all of the advanced features back on.

fck doesn't do bbcode. The only "quality" visual editor that can do bbcode is what we have. There are some other bbcode visual editors but they're mostly first year CS projects by high school kids.
BBcode as a storage and transfer format is not negotiable. It only makes sense to create posts in bbcode also.
Unfortunately we use a lot of custom javascript to insert stuff into the editor, and auto-complete alone is a bugger to deal with. So dropping in another editor also means developing a javascipt plugin infrastructure.
As a project with limited resources I decided early on that we needed a visual editor and that tinymce was it. I didn't make this choice without researching everything available.
But remember that we're open source. So it's all a matter of whether or not somebody has an itch so bad that they need to scratch it.

("Why are you playing with dead snakes?", you ask. Because, I was using it as a skeleton for something we did a different way instead. But also, Friendica should be like WordPress. You don't say "that's ugly!", you say "You can download hundreds of themes!". Restoring an old one is quicker than making a new one.)

No, you can't hear it first.
And no, you can't play it loud enough for anyone else to hear after you've bought it.
And if you watch the promotion video online, we'll sue you.
Watch it three times, and you'll lose your internet connection.
But, it's only £14.99 so that's okay.

Ten Linux apps you must install.
Presumably, because everyone loves wasting disk space with stupid apps nobody uses...
I've got Kate installed - but only because it's part of KDE. I never use it.
Anyone else use any of these "must have" apps? I certainly don't.

Yeah, it is somewhat bloated. Turn composting off, and get rid of Nepomuk, and you barely notice other than slightly slow start up times.
Never understood the obsession with start up times. How many times a day to you start a new app? We've got multiple desktops for a reason...

started on an nntp/nnrp connector a while back ...experimental as it is it seems to be working .. eg: http://spraci.info/profile/rec.audio.pro
but kind of lost interest - nobody out there seems to be doing anything other than peering with huge corporate usenet servers or offering single user usenet access ... and I don't see any non-usenet bbs networks out there using nntp - sure I could probably just turn it into just another a newsreader (would need a UI rethink) but that is not so interesting...

Been reading the policy4 again for FidoNet.
It turns out, it might actually be really hard to implement Fidonet with Friendica's privacy, nevermind what it would involve technically. We can't use encryption, for example (without consent from everybody). We have to forbid access for an hour a day. Admins are responsible for everything that goes through it, and we are expected to moderate somewhat...

Mozilla needs to find alternatives to the Google umbilical
So far, so good, but then:
Imagine acquiring an app and having it run across multiple devices, whether or not all these devices come from the same vendor. Imagine being able to choose when it makes sense to interact with the app provider directly or instead through Apple, Google or Microsoft.
And the retardedness continues in the comments:
Many techies I know (myself included) are now advocating Chrome
Uh, no - you're not technically competent if you recommend chrome.
Considering they both share the same goals, or similar goals. i'd like to see some more synergy between firefox and chrome
...
I weep for humanity, I really do.
Even the alleged technically competent aren't.

"Don't be evil", right? That's probably the best marketing slogan for huge corporation that was ever invented.
Far too many people still buy it. I must admit that if my real-life friends had followed me fomr Facebook to Google+ when it was new, I'd probably still try convince myself that it was actually true.
And while there are very few points that suggest this is really a valid statement, I still have the feeling (!) today that "Google is less evil than Facebook".
Now that's effective marketing.

"Steam for Linux" beta, not Steam for "Linux Beta".
They've ported Steam to Ubuntu, for some reason. Debian would seem to make more sense - that way you get all the downstream distros too - but they must have their reasons.
