There is a reason for the lack of such a button. All will become apparent in time.

You can only backport the bits that are finished.

Ok, first thought after the git pull in the morning ... mmm there is missing something, but it's usable a short visit in the settings and the features I want to have are back while those I don't need stay hidden

That FPI #1, I'm afraid.

Everybody wants a different set of features. We can't autodetect them.

The sane options are everything on, and everything off. If we turn everything on by default it becomes even more complicated for people scared of features.

Remember, this is a network why we get bug reports that external websites use a different themes to the user. We have to think of people with an IQ of 11. The rest of us can turn features on. They can't turn them off.

@Giaco el vecio - I've tried several rich text editors and found you just swap one set of problems for another. If you can find one without problems that can churn out Friendica flavoured BBCode, well, everyone hates TinyMCE.

Yes - I tried about a dozen different ones a few months ago.

You may remember me threatening to replace Jot with one of @tony baldwin 's scripts at the time...

But seriously, everybody including contributors hate TinyMCE. If you want to test some, try using them for a few days, then test them against open issues on the bug tracker. If you find something that performs better, I think we'd be open to replacing it.

It's surprisingly not-that-bad.

I mean, there's lots of stuff missing, but nothing hard. It might be laborious, but it won't be difficult - when in doubt, steal from a zero.

I used to use kate, a long time ago, before KDE became a bloated mess, and I didn't know how to use vim.

I pretty well always use gparted for partitioning new hard drives before installing anything on them, or making a new partition, if, say, I want to install second OS (meaning, another linux distribution) to play with.

I have LibreOffice installed, but still mostly use OpenOffice (because that comes with Debian Stable, still).

I also have SMplayer installed, and occasionally use it. I mostly use mocp for playing music, however. I always keep mplayer and ffmpeg around for video and stuff, but the smplayer frontend is a goood gui for mplayer.

I also have synaptic installed, but only rarely use it when I want to search through packages and don't want the headache of doing it with aptitude. I prefer aptitude for installing stuff, generally, but the categories and stuff in synaptic are handy, and the interface is a little less unwieldy than aptitude.

I never even heard of most of the rest of that stuff.

If you gave me Iceweasel, Kmail, Kwrite, Konsole, Git and VLC, it might take me weeks to notice anything else was missing.

I've four of them installed: Kate, smplayer, LibreOffice, GParted. LibreOffice is the only thing I use on a regluar basis (mostly to exchange documents with others).

Never used for example LuckyBackup, doing that kind of stuff with cron, find, tar and gzip. then I'am sure that I got a working backup.

I don't do it often enough.

Ah, for pdf files I use mupdf (very fast viewer) and pdfjam a lot.

I wish we'd all stop using pdf and use djvu ( a truly Free document format that preserves formatting, etc., like pdf, but not patented by Adobe, and actually lighter/more efficient) instead, but I recognize that my clients don't give a crap what I want.
I also wish they'd stop using Trados and MSOrifice, but I know it's not going to happen today.
Thankfully, I have FLOSS tools that allow me to work with all those crappy proprietary file formats and shite, anyway, at least.

I wish people out there would stop linking pdf's as if they were just another page .. its really annoying to have the machine lock up for a minute or so every time I click on such a link!

its always faster to download them and view then in an offline reader.

pdf is for offline viewing or printing, its not a web format.

^even with plugins or addons that can view them in browser, not that they load any slower than, say, the Huffington Post (ugh...all the javascript and flash pop-ups and crap...used to be a decent news source, but now it just sucks bandwidth out of the internet for no good reason).

My browser doesn't recognise PDFs. Like all things it doesn't recognise, it just downloads them.

Like all things I hate, I click cancel, unless I really, really, really want it and can't find it anywhere else.

I have GParted installed, because it allows me to avoid fdisk. When I was using KDE (to which I'll return shortly), KWrite was my main editor (with emacs as the alt).

Never heard of Lucky, I use duplicity for backups.

@Thomas Willingham how's Kmail these days? Do you Kmail2, or Kmail vintage? Last time I checked, Kmail2 was still being worked on. I do prefer it to Thunderbird.

Also, this is mostly because I want it...but also the Amstrad CPC community has been stung by centralisation four times as we all congregated around the same handful of sites, which all closed down.

Now they're hanging out on a generic 8-bit forum.

If I can get a red client, we can potentially bring in an entire community...there are lots of smaller sites too. Right now, they don't work too well with like 12 members. Imagine a Red client, where you just typed in your Zot hub URL, and suddenly, they're all part of the network.

Whether it's a company, or just some bloke, I don't know - but it's big and well known enough that you'd expect a bit more professionalism.
