@Charles Roth @Nathan Smith @Bob Mottram I am putting you on ignore/archive here as we are successfully reconnected at friend.elsmussols.
@Commander Zot @Giaco el vecio I will do this to you too, when you confirm good connection to elsmussols.
@Friendica Support And so the troubleshooting begins. I think there's a PHP problem of some kind as I am getting white screen for network.
Also note the following output.
Though recognizable polling stuff happens.
Also note the following output.
root@pendle:/var/www# php include/poller.php

Thomas, I've just done a git pull and view/smarty3 was updated. so I'm sure if there was a problem there it isn't now.
mod_rewrite is definitely on:
.htaccess is a copy of the one from the previous server, so I'm also thinking that would also be unproblematic.
@Charles Roth I have noted those lines but haven't implemented them yet as the git pull cured all my white screens. I'm thinking that possibly there were some permission issues from the constant tarring and untarring of /var/www as I've server hopped and these have been cured by file replacement. Here's hoping...

@Friendica Support After a number of false starts due to hardware inadequacy, friend.elsmussols.net is on its way back. Keep your fingers crossed folks.
@ana@cronstat.org+6881 This is my my backup account. I have my own instance now, so please connect to me in this place.
Glad to see you've taken the plunge

@Jon Kulp I am having difficulty sending you a connect request from my new instance. Could you please try the other way please? Paul Taylor

#friendshostfriends is a new tag to use if you have your own Friendica site and want to offer your friends some space on it. Make sure your friends from #diaspora and #facebook know that they are welcome.
#friendshelpbuild is even better. Let your friends know that you would be happy to help them get their own #friendica sites up and running.

I am in #dualposting mode for a short time. I will be mainly here (kakste.com) but also on my new instance (friend.elsmussols.net) until I have time to sort everything out. The instance is a work project and the folks paying the bills get priority on getting their stuff sorted out before my stuff. Then I'll transition properly, so @Arto: don't put me on ignore or into archive just yet.

@Leonard Could you also please connect to this Paul Taylor, as I am transitioning to my own instance and need some Diasporans to test D* connectivity.
@David Benfell Aye, to where is referenced in other posts. I will update relevant thread when appropriate.
@Friendica Support I'm doing my ~f install today. Downloaded zipball, added addons into the correct directory as "addon". My "Friendica Social Communications Server - Setup | System check" page has green lights all the way (including mod_rewrite enabled). So I hit the next button and get:
There is no install file, though I do have /mod/install.php.
Suggestions please.

@Martin Farrent It's not a problem (and I've added you), but I don't want to read everything twice...
Wouldn't a better option be the ability "redirect" a contact to a new home, either with a setting on the old server, and/or by editing the contact?
Ideally, this should only be changed in one place, and would then propagate throughout the network. Why make work for every subscriber, especially if they're 100,000+ fans of a contact? But the ability to edit a contact and say "he's now located here, and uses this public key" is important too.

The 21st century has arrived at #elsmussols, we now have wireless capability (not that we'll use it much, but the capability is important). Thanks to Peter for the donation of a wifi router.
Paul Taylor likes this.
Exactly. Wired is much more energy efficient (do you know how much power a wireless card sucks?) and will therefore be the default, but having the option for guests is a must. There is another good by-product: I don't have to trail cables out of the window anymore when we have sunny evenings and we want to sit out on the platform and have a laptop nearby.
A lot of the bikers use smartphones for GPS to save weight (multi-purpose gadget). There isn't usually a wired solution for that. Problem is that I used to go somewhere, my GPS loaded with tracks from a single source - and discover that the source was a person with completely different tastes to my own. But in the old days, I was usually unable to find and download new tracks at my destination.
The Pakistani shop in Tortosa has reopened and we have six months' worth of tea in now. #endofworldpostponed
Too much to do, too little time. I would like to apply for the 36 hour day option please.

@Charles Occupy Roth I suspect you may enjoy this Will Self: A Point of View: In defence of obscure words.
Still doesn't work. I could send you afriend request, of course, but then the problem wouldn't be fixed and you'll probably get the same with others over and over again.
If you enter
curl https://friendika.zottel.net
on your host, you should see the html delivered by my server. If that works, SSL is not the problem.
I will send you a friend reuqest if you want, of course, but I'd also help debugging, in which case it wouldn't make sense if I sent you one.
If you want that, anyway, just say so, and I will.

There are songs which are consistently dismissed as trivial pop. I've just heard this messed about with in a #SolidSteel podcast and twenty five years later this still gives me chills:
They were 17 and 18 when they did this...
Next up "Why Hanson -- Mmmmbop is the most underrated pop song ever".

@David Benfell Thanks, but not true. The directory structure is made when the first email is received. @Michael Johnston 's tip worked. Now storming through the rest of the howto...
Are code BB tags broken? I have a post to make that involves quite a few and I don't want to inflict a monstrously formatted post on you all?
TinyMCE has been updated since the OP (or at least, since the last time I used it). If it works for everyone else, it should work here now too.
@Lee, just mindboggling as in requiring a lot of caffeine and sugar. The problems we were having were...you could see exactly what was going wrong, but couldn't quite put it into words, nevermind a few lines of code. One of those intuitively obvious things that was hard to pinpoint.
Hang around a bit, and the next time it breaks you'll see what I mean.

@Friendica Day By Friendica Day 2012 I will have a new instance online (the actual deadline is 01 May 2012). It will be initially for #elsmussols folk and the staff and volunteers of an eco-charity I am doing some web work for. We'll see how we manage with that for a couple of months and if I have excess capacity, it will become public. Now back to email config...
@Vasudeva Kamath I have an outstanding connect request from you which I get timeouts on. I am going to not accept. Please send another...
